A Gem of Learning in Richmond, Virginia – The Lifelong Learning Institute

Located in the heart of Virginia, The Lifelong Learning Institute in Chesterfield is a member-supported organization designed to meet the educational and social enrichment needs of adults age 50 and “better.” The Institute is a learning community of peers who are committed to ongoing education and their own intellectual development. Members want to stay current, are curious about the world of ideas and are involved with their own learning. The Institute develops and offers daytime courses, lectures and special events on a wide range of topics. There are no exams, no credits and no college degrees required. The program consists of spring, summer and fall sessions. Professors and other course leaders, who work without compensation, are well known, informed, and experienced professionals who enjoy sharing their knowledge and expertise.

The LLI has over 700 members and counting. Becoming a member allows for unlimited registration for courses such as; Foreign Language, Phone Apps, Travel, Current Events, Bridge, and many more! Courses are taught by retired professionals, VCU staff, and interested volunteers.

Membership is required in order to register for courses. The annual membership fee of $150 per person allows individuals to participate in all of the courses, lectures, and planned social events available during their 12 months of membership. The Institute also has a limited number of scholarships available to those with financial need. 

LLI will have over 170 in-person and 30+ online classes available for the Fall, with online registration at info@llichesterfield.org.

“The Lifelong Learning Institute has an amazing group of volunteer instructors from retired teachers to current professors and those who have much knowledge in an array of fields that they are happy to share. For a minimal yearly fee, seniors can take classes in a wide array of subjects such as art, history, poetry, music, science, current events, health, humor, finance, fitness. and so much more.
