A Colorful Southern Welcome At The Ashland Home & Garden Tour.

“Gardens and flowers have a way of bringing people together, drawing them from their homes.” -Clare Ansberry.

We couldn’t have said it any better than this Wall Street Journal Columnist. There is something to be said about a community that shares similar values. That naturally just brings people together. That is what makes the relationship between Chickahominy Falls and its location in Ashland so unique. Last week, it was beautifully apparent when touring the colorful homes and grounds as part of the Ashland Home and Garden tour.

In this historic railroad town, the homes are characterized by an impressive number of eclectic homes, both quaint and grand. It is in this mix that gives Ashland its personality. Touring through five homes, all architecturally diverse and ranging from historic to newly renovated, made for a completely charming view. Dating back to the late 1800’s, the stories of unique family history were told through pictures and heirlooms, showcasing that Ashland has always been a community with a heart and a soul.

Hosted by the Ashland Garden Club, the floral arrangements both inside and outside were creative and whimsical.  There were surprises throughout the gardens and around every corner.   Even peeking around the outdoor shower, added an extra special touch.

It was a beautiful day to walk the tree-lined streets of Ashland.  So much so that the tour continued down the charming street to the Historic Ashland Christian Church as well as the Ashland Museum, Ashland Train Station and Visitor’s Center.   And of course, all the shops and restaurants by “the tracks” made for a perfect and quintessentially Ashland-style way to end the day.

Today and every day, we are thankful to live in a small town that has a knack for growing gardens and community. By its very nature.
