A Grassroots Partnership With
Real Local RVA Is Taking Root Right Here At Chickahominy Falls.
Chickahominy Falls is proud to announce its event sponsorship of Real Local RVA, a grassroots group of independent, small grocery stores, restaurants, farmer’s markets, farmers, growers and supporters designed to connect and educate people in order to grow the local food scene in greater Richmond.
“We’re proud to support Real Local RVA’s mission because it aligns so closely with our own,” said Roger Glover, Principal of The Crescent Group, developer of Chickahominy Falls. “Not only are we creating a healthier, farm-centric community for our homeowners, we’re creating opportunities for the larger community of Greater Richmond to enjoy fresh, locally grown produce. We’re committed to fostering healthier living and are happy to support our like-minded growers, grocers and restaurants.”
The partnership is coming together at a November 28th event, which is bringing world-renowned farmer, Joel Salatin of Polyface Farms to discuss Sustainable Abundance. Providing good, healthy food to over 5,000 families, 50 restaurants, 10 retail outlets, and a farmers’ market, Salatin actually lives Sustainable Abundance and looks at the future with inspiration one bite at a time.
The event will take place at the VCU Institute for Contemporary Art on Wednesday, November 28th from 6:30-9:00 p.m. Guests are invited to arrive early to attend the museum’s exhibit “Hedges, Edges, Dirt,” and to stay later for a reception following the program.
“A strong sponsorship from a great partner like Chickahominy Falls, makes these events possible,” said Beth Furgurson, Executive Director of Real Local RVA. “And these meetings are a great way to meet the producers, farmers, grocers and all the people who are involved because, in my mind, it’s that personal connection that really helps to make this movement grow.”
Every meal has the potential to further the local food movement in Greater Richmond. It happens when you actually know how your food found its way to your table. And when you live here at Chickahominy Falls, that path certainly will be shorter than most thanks to Woodside Farms, the 10-acre working farm at the heart of the community. Soon our 55 and better homeowners will enjoy a curated mix of fruits, veggies, herbs and flowers all grown right in the neighborhood. It just doesn’t get any more local than that.
