Dinner & A Show?

It’s true. Ashland has polished an old city treasure to make your date nights even more golden. Located just a hop, skip and a jump from Chickahominy Falls, reintroducing the recently reopened and remodeled 70-year-old Ashland Theater.

Long before the dawn of mega-multiplexes, there were movie houses in every small town.  Now, Ashland once again has an old fashioned, single screen movie house that is pedestrian friendly and integrates beautifully with the streetscape of the town.
I’ve been waiting for this treasure to open and finally got my chance recently. It was a packed house on a Thursday night to see Green Book. Great times and a great movie. But what was even better was the larger experience, spending time in this historic theater. It was almost like stepping back in time.  Friendly greeters at the door, no big parking lots or large crowds, and just a real “home town” feel.

The concession stand had the usual popcorn, candy and soda, but it also offered a few sweet surprises.  Desserts by Suzanne’s, a local restaurant and adult beverages.   My favorite was the “The Iron Horse,” named after a local dining favorite, with a tasty twist on the classic Moscow Mule. With a name like that, it’s a great reminder that before or after the movie, you can walk to several local restaurants, The Iron Horse, The Caboose, Suzanne’s, The Trackside Grill, just to name a few!  No cars, no traffic, just steps to good eating!
The Ashland Theater not only shows movies, but there will be live performances, bands, and other educational events coming soon to this theater near you.  What a great community asset and a wonderful venue for the people of Ashland and Chickahominy Falls.  Enjoy!!!
